DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- The 28th annual Full Frame Film Festival is underway in Durham.

Screenings are taking place at the Carolina Theater and Durham Convention Center.

Organizers say the internationally recognized festival is a big draw, bringing nearly a $2 million boost to the local economy.

The mission includes expanding access to community members interested in learning about documentaries and offers four free community screenings this year.

The film festival is expecting more than 6,000 attendees this weekend.

"When people come this weekend, I really hope they come with curiosity so that they can be open to seeing new artists and experiencing new stories," said Emily Foster, the festival co-director. "I think one of the best things about the film festival is that you are here with your community, celebrating just incredible art."

This year, more than 70 films will be shown from now through Sunday.

Tickets are on sale here.
