Inside, the products made by Elseware Unplug are designed to take people somewhere else entirely: away from screens and technology.
"Our attention and focus is pulled from us a lot by our phones and our obligations and screens and just gives everyone an opportunity to kind of take a step back from all that," said Brittany Farrant of Elseware Unplug. "Unplug to connect."
Elseware Unplug, formerly known as EcoKids, creates natural and eco-friendly products and kits that help kids, teens and adults step away from technology.
"A lot of art supplies, drawing, painting, crayons, colored pencils.Watercolor paints have been a very popular item for us," Farrant said. "EcoDough play dough is all food grade. That's one of the things with Eco Dough, you can eat it."
The women-owned business was created by the same team behind Burt's Bees and is focused on producing products that help people step away from the stress of everyday life.
"A lot of them are pretty open-ended. You can use them to sit with them and create something of your own. That's the whole point-do something low-pressure, engage in your natural creativity, your natural artist," Farrant said.
Nestled near the bustling technology hub of Research Triangle Park, Elseware Unplug hopes to create a completely different experience with fewer screens and deadlines and more fun.
"It's more about the creative process over the outcome," Farrant said.
