Employees evacuate after fire, explosion reported at Durham facility; Cause under investigation

DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Durham Fire Department (DFD) responded to a fire alarm at a facility located on Weck Drive on Monday.

The call came in around 5:00 p.m. and the situation quickly escalated when reports indicated a possible explosion had occured inside the building, DFD says.

All employees had evacuated the building before firefighters arrived. Crews conducted thorough primary and secondary searches to ensure no one remained inside.

After arriving on the scene, fire crews successfully extinguished the flames in a short amount of time. No injuries were reported, and the facility experienced only minimal operational disruption.

The Durham Fire Department's Fire Investigator is actively investigating the cause of the fire.



Nearly 50 firefighters arrived promptly and upgraded the call to a working structure fire.
