Fire breaks out at Durham motel, causes roof damage and forces evacuation

DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- A fire broke out at a Durham motel Wednesday morning, prompting an evacuation of the building.

It happened around 9 a.m. at the Super 8 Motel on Guess Road. The Durham Fire Department (DFD) reported that the first crew on the scene observed smoke coming from the roof.

Everyone inside the motel was evacuated, and no injuries were reported. The exact number of people present at the time of the fire remains unknown.

Chopper 11 captured aerial footage showing significant roof damage, including a large hole. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control in approximately 25 minutes, with 50 personnel responding to the call, according to DFD.



Durham County EMS, the Durham Police Department, Duke Energy, and the Lebanon Fire Department also provided assistance at the scene.



The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
