FORT BRAGG, N.C. (WTVD) -- As tensions rise overseas with the escalating war in Iran, families on Fort Bragg spent part of their day focused on something closer to home: community, connection, and celebration.

Dozens of military families gathered at the Chay Youth Center for a festive Easter egg roll designed to bring joy to children whose parents continue to serve during uncertain times.

The event featured games, activities, and even a visit from local firefighters, who gave children an up-close look at a fire truck.

This year's celebration carried a patriotic theme in honor of America's upcoming 250th birthday. Organizers filled the event with 1,000 red, white and blue eggs. Each one was donated by Braswell Family Farms in Nashville, North Carolina.

The same farm is known for supplying eggs to the White House Easter Egg Roll. For many families, the event provided a welcome distraction as soldiers with the 82nd Airborne Division prepared for potential deployment.

"It's a lot going on in the world. People are stressing and panicking because you don't know what tomorrow may bring," said veteran Tiwanna Puryear. "So this is great camaraderie to be able to come out, enjoy time with your kids away from the stressful environment."

Military spouse Brooklyn Barker said events like this help fill an important need for families navigating military life.

"We love kid events and being able to get out and distract them and give them fun things to do around the community," Barker said. "We have a military family, so we love to come to these and fill that void."

As the world watches the unfolding conflict abroad, the gathering served as a reminder that even in challenging times, small moments of joy and togetherness remain essential for military families at home. The event wrapped up at 6 p.m. at Fort Bragg.
