In a heartbreaking entry on the Scary Mommy parenting website, it was announced Monday that the company's founder, Jill Smokler, has died.

The 48-year-old battled glioblastoma for more than two years, according to the Scary Mommy team.

Smokler was a stay-at-home mom with three kids when she started the Scary Mommy website that provided an honest take on the rewards and challenges that come with parenting. Her first entry was in 2008.

Her words brought comfort, laughter and peace-of-mind to many moms who were able to commiserate with the millions of followers on the company's social media pages.

The family shared this statement following her passing: "Jill spent her life telling the truth about motherhood - that it could be wonderful and impossible in the very same breath - and in doing so, she gave millions of women permission to stop pretending and feel a little less alone. She was funny, fearless, generous, and entirely herself. More than anything she built, Jill was proudest of her three children, Lily, Ben, and Evan. We are heartbroken to lose her, and endlessly proud of the mark she left on the world."

In lieu of flowers, Smokler's family requests that donations in her memory be made to The Brain Tumor Network.
