The victim, 42-year-old Edward Duncan Jr., of Smithfield, was shot and killed May 7 in the 100 block of Vanderbilt Circle.
On Friday, police said a 16-year-old and a 12-year-old were developed as suspects.
Police said Friday that investigators got a tip that the 16-year-old was in class at Goldsboro High School and went to the school to find him. As a cautionary measure, the school was placed in lockdown.
Police then found out that the teen had left campus before investigators arrived. After confirming there were no safety concerns, the lockdown was lifted.
Investigators found and took the teen into custody on Friday and charged him with one count of murder.
The 12-year-old boy was found at his Goldsboro home and taken into custody. He was charged with one count each of murder, larceny of a firearm, and possession of a stolen firearm.
He was taken to a juvenile detention facility. The teen is being held pending his first court appearance.
