Goldsboro school bus crash sends 6 students to hospital; driver airlifted

GOLDSBORO, N.C. (WTVD) -- Emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle crash involving a school bus Thursday afternoon at a bridge on North Carolina Street and West Vine Street, Goldsboro Police said.

The crash happened around 4 p.m. The school bus was carrying students from Dillard Charter Academy at the time.

Officials said nine children and two adults were on board the bus, including the driver and a bus monitor.

Six students were taken to UNC Health Wayne for treatment of what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.

The bus driver was airlifted to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville. The driver's condition was not immediately known.



"We extend our sincere gratitude to the Goldsboro Police Department and Wayne EMS for their swift response and support," Dillard Academy Charter School said in a statement to ABC11. "Please keep all passengers, and especially the bus driver, in your thoughts and prayers during this time."

Authorities have not yet said what caused the crash.
