A local nonprofit is working to make sure those grandparents don't have to navigate the journey alone.
Being a Grandparent Support (B.A.G.S.) will host the Joyful Noise Black & White Gospel Gala Extravaganza on Saturday, September 26, at 3 p.m., at Vision Church RDU (5808 Departure Drive, Raleigh).
The evening will feature national gospel recording artist Kim Person, along with choirs, mimes, quartets, and opportunities to learn more about the organization and the families it serves.
But behind the music and celebration is a serious need.
Across the community, grandparents are stepping in to raise grandchildren, sometimes because of circumstances that require children to be placed in their immediate care. B.A.G.S. helps families navigate those transitions by providing resources and support.
According to the organization, funds raised through the gala support its programs, including its emergency starter kits initiative.
These emergency kits will provide families with practical necessities. For school-age children, kits will include clothing, hygiene items, school supplies, and a grocery gift card, while kits for babies and toddlers will include clothing, diapers, bottles, hygiene items, and other essentials.
For grandparents living this reality, that support can be crucial. The Joyful Noise Gala gives the community a chance to come together and support this cause.
Tickets are on sale now. Guests are encouraged to dress in black and white.
The organization's message is simple: when the bags of life get too heavy, B.A.G.S. is there to help.
