GREENSBORO, N.C. (WTVD) -- A man is hospitalized after getting shot by a Greensboro officer Saturday morning.

It happened in the 2000 block of Veasley Street around 12:30 a.m.

Officers were out looking for a suspect tied to a Thursday incident at the Studio 6 parking lot. The suspect had warrants out for charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon, sexual battery, assault on a female, misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, and interfere with emergency communications.

When they tried to arrest him, he pulled out a handgun and fired at the officers. One of the officers shot back, hitting the suspect.

The suspect was taken to the hospital for treatment, and an officer who got injured was treated and later released.

This is still an active investigation, and the Greensboro Police Department's Professional Standards Division is looking into whether policies were followed. For now, the officer involved is on administrative duty as part of standard procedure.
