ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. (WTVD) -- A Halifax County man says excitement took over Monday night after he scratched off a $100,000 lottery prize at a Roanoke Rapids convenience store.

Tyler Acree of Roanoke Rapids said he didn't hold back when he realized his $20 Stacks of Cash ticket was a winner.

"I just started running in circles around the store," he said, laughing.

Others in the store quickly joined the celebration.

"Everybody in there was jumping up and down yelling," Acree said.

He bought the ticket at Cloud 9 on Premier Boulevard. Once the shock wore off, Acree immediately grabbed his phone.

"I called everybody I could think of," he said.

Acree visited lottery headquarters in Raleigh on Tuesday to claim the prize. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $72,016. He said he plans to use the money to pay bills and invest.

Stacks of Cash launched in January with three $2 million top prizes and six $100,000 prizes. Two top prizes and four $100,000 prizes remain.
