The Harryson Anderson Foundation was created to reflect the qualities those closest to him say defined his life: kindness, loyalty and resilience.
At the center of that mission is the Harryson Anderson Scholarship, which provides financial support to students who demonstrate compassion and determination while pursuing their education.
Family members say the goal is to turn their grief into something positive by creating opportunities for others and carrying forward Anderson's legacy.
The foundation is also planning a community event in his honor.
A charity basketball tournament is scheduled for Aug. 22 at Ascend Leadership Academy in Sanford. The event begins at 10 a.m., with team entry set at $125. General admission is $10, and children under 10 are free.
Organizers say the event is meant to bring the community together while supporting the foundation's ongoing efforts.
