GARNER, N.C. (WTVD) -- A man arrested after a high-speed chase on Friday that spanned two counties and ended in a crash made a first court appearance on Monday.

Murad Terrall Taylor, 38, of Garner, told the judge he would hire his own attorney and received a bond of $75,000.

The crash happened on Jones Sausage Road at Auburn Church Road. Authorities said the wreck, which involved at least three vehicles -- two SUVs and a tractor-trailer -- happened after a pursuit that started in Johnston County.

According to an arrest warrant, the Johnston County Sheriff's Office said Taylor fled after a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop at Cleveland Road and Veterans Parkway. The deputy noted that the car he was trying to stop was going at least 15 mph over the legal speed limit and ran a red light.

The warrant shows that the chase reached 100 mph in a 70 mph zone on Interstate 40 westbound. Taylor is also accused of firing a shotgun into a blue Hyundai sedan during the pursuit.

The Johnston County Sheriff's Office said Taylor refused to get out of the car after the chase ended and tried to run away before being taken into custody.

He and the driver of the other SUV involved in the crash were treated for minor injuries.

Taylor was charged with felony flee/elude arrest with motor vehicle, felony discharging weapon into occupied dwelling/moving vehicle, speeding, reckless driving to endanger, possession of marijuana up to 1/2 ounce, open container of alcohol, resisting public officer, and failure to stop-steady red light.

He was also charged with possession of a firearm by felon after deputies recovered a Winchester Ranger 12-gauge pump shotgun.

His next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 25.
