The scene, which drew the attention of families across the Sandhills with missing loved ones, was cleared by investigators just before 2 p.m. on Friday.
Deputies reportedly took a break overnight but returned early Friday morning to continue their search and gather evidence.
Linda Groves, a longtime resident who has called the neighborhood home for 50 years and lives less than a mile from the wooded area, expressed shock at the discovery.
"That's terrible. I mean, it really, you know, I can't believe that," Groves said.
Groves said she was compelled to see the scene for herself after seeing news reports.
"I just (was) seeing (it) on TV and I wanted to come and see where it was at, but I was shocked to find it was right here, you know. I was just shocked to think it was right here. Yeah," she said.
Chopper 11 captured caution tape surrounding both a home and part of the wooded area on Deep Creek Road.
More than a dozen sheriff's deputies, some accompanied by K-9 units, were seen searching the area.
The identity of the person found has not been released, and it is unclear whether there is any connection between the home and the incident.

"My heart goes out to them, and I'll keep them in my prayers, you know?" Groves said, offering sympathy to the family of the deceased.
The case is under active investigation.
