Assistant Enloe HS principal faces charges after allegedly driving while impaired causing crash

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- An assistant principal of Enloe High School was arrested and charged following a car accident on Thursday night.

According to court documents, Jamie Ricardo Poindexter Jackson, 47, of Youngsville was allegedly driving while impaired on North Smithfield Road and McKnight Drive, causing an accident. A woman in the car sustained a head injury, and two children -- ages 3 and 8, both of whom Jackson is the father -- were also in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

He faces multiple charges, including felony serious injury by vehicle, misdemeanor driving while impaired, and two counts of misdemeanor child abuse.

A spokesperson for the high school sent a message to families regarding the incident:

We have learned that Assistant Principal Jamie Jackson has been charged with driving while impaired, felony serious injury by vehicle, and misdemeanor child abuse. The charges are not related to incidents that occurred on our campus or with our students. I want to assure you that we take the safety of our students and staff members very seriously. While privacy laws prevent me from providing much additional information about the situation, I can share that Mr. Jackson is suspended with pay while the district conducts an investigation.
