What started as a routine work break at a convenience store turned into an unforgettable experience.
"It's not something you can describe," said Harlee Aliff of Kenly. "It's surreal."
Aliff, an employee at a clearing and grinding company, was working near the Handy Mart on Wilsons Mills Road in Wilson Mills when he stopped by the store, bought a $20 Stacks of Cash scratch-off, and won a $2 million prize.
He claimed his prize at lottery headquarters on Thursday, opting for a $1.2 million lump sum instead of $100,000 annually over 20 years. After state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $864,126.
Aliff plans to buy a house and take care of his family.
