Lee County deputy chase leads to extensive drug charges

LEE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- A man who led deputies on a pursuit is facing numerous charges, including several significant drug-related ones.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office said that on Thursday, deputies attempted to pull over a car for "motor vehicle violations" on NC 87. The driver refused to stop and led deputies on a chase on NC 87.

The driver eventually pulled his car behind a gas station and became stuck when he tried to pull back onto the roadway. Deputies then took him into custody.

He was identified as Christopher Sean Tyson, 35.

During a search of Tyson's vehicle, deputies found fentanyl, cocaine, and marijuana. Dempsey, a Lee County K9, was brought in and deployed, leading to the recovery of a handgun along the suspect's flight path.

Tyson was arrested and charged with two counts of trafficking fentanyl, two counts of trafficking cocaine, possession of firearm by felon, possess with intent to sell and deliver fentanyl, possess with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, possess with intent to sell and marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, maintaining a vehicle for sale of controlled substance, felony flee to elude arrest, operating vehicle with no insurance, reckless driving, resisting public officer, driving while license revoked, driving left of center, and unsafe movement.



Tyson was ordered held without bond.
