ASHEBORO, N.C. (WTVD) -- The body of a missing 7-year-old boy who was reported missing Sunday evening has been found in a pond.

According to the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, Liam A. King's body was found at 10:15 a.m.Tuesday in a pond near the Forest Hill Drive area in Asheboro. This is the area where he was first reported missing.

"Anytime you deal with a child, you become emotional. We all have kids. You put yourself in that position. This child had a life to live and it was taken from him," Sheriff Gregory Seabolt said.

His body has been sent to the medical examiner's office in Chapel Hill to be examined and to determine the cause of death.

Tuesday afternoon, the Randolph County Sheriff's Office said in part on their Facebook page, "Over the past two days, you've seen an extraordinary effort from all involved in this search. This loss is truly heartbreaking. We ask everyone to please continue to keep Liam's family in your thoughts and prayers."

Liam was with his mother's boyfriend when he disappeared, Seabolt said.

Liam's death is being investigated, the sheriff's office says.

Monday, Sheriff Seabolt said they were "using every resource available" to find Liam, including "many" law enforcement partners, state, local, and federal resources, and other first responders who have been searching on the ground and by air.
