GREENSBORO, N.C. (WTVD) -- A man was arrested Sunday in connection with a Greensboro shooting involving a police officer last month.

Oliver Wendell Watlington, 59, faces charges of assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a felon.

The incident occurred on January 24 around 12:30 a.m. in the 2000 block of Veasley Street. Officers attempting to arrest Watlington, who was sought in connection with a prior incident at the Studio 6 parking lot, say he fired a handgun at them. One officer returned fire, striking Watlington.

Both Watlington and an officer were hospitalized, with the officer later released.

After his hospital discharge, Watlington was booked into the Guilford County Jail. He also faces warrants for two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, sexual battery, assault on a female, misdemeanor domestic violence, and interfering with emergency communications.

He is being held without bond as the investigation continues.

This remains an active investigation.
