Students say they feel like professors are being overworked because of recent changes and that it's impacting the quality of their education.
"Currently right now with the state of the college, the flaws are outweighing the benefits," said Meredith student Ronnie Nigh.
"It's a breaking point," said Meredith student Alana Barber. We're all tired and sick of dealing with this."
Over the summer, Meredith laid off six percent of its staff to balance the budget.
Students say those who remained on the job took on more responsibilities and then this past Thursday, the college announced deans would be eliminated.
Those administrators are returning to the classroom.
"They got demoted basically," said Meredith student Keke Vance.
"It just pushed work on everybody else," said Meredith student Briana Harris.
"You have a professor that's scrambling to teach all of the classes," said Meredith student Emma Melton, who transferred this year to study hospitality and says she's now hitting some roadblocks.
"I can't take certain classes I want to take to graduate. I'm going to have to find alternative classes that I might not like as much," said Melton.
Students also feel recent cost-saving measures are impacting living conditions on campus.
"The living facilities are not good whatsoever," said Nigh.
A Meredith spokesperson tells ABC11 News that facility maintenance is a top priority, and it recently brought on a new facility director to work with students on dorm issues.
As for the academic structure changes, the college says in a statement:
"Meredith College takes student feedback about their experience seriously. Any time our Facilities department or Campus Dining receives requests from students, those take a high priority. Meredith regularly holds campus forums, during which students can share their feedback.
As Meredith confronts financial pressures as a result of economic and demographic shifts, budget reductions are a necessary, strategic step in helping the College grow and evolve. With the full support of the College's Board of Trustees, Meredith's administrators are reviewing all possible cost-saving measures, with a firm commitment to ensuring that none of them compromise Meredith's mission or the quality of our programs."
