BUXTON, N.C. (WTVD) -- Several oceanfront homes fell Monday overnight in the Outer Banks.

The Island Free Press Newspaper shared these photos of the aftermath of one of the homes that collapsed in Buxton early Sunday. The National Park Service at Cape Hatteras said the house, located on Tower Circle Road, was unoccupied when it fell, and no injuries were reported.

ABC affiliate 13News Now reported that the collapse happened along the same stretch of coastline where more than 10 homes were lost to the ocean during hurricane conditions back in October.

Officials have been sounding the alarm about the risks to oceanfront properties. They've warned that high water levels can weaken structures, especially during and after powerful coastal storms.

The Outer Banks is grappling with ongoing erosion issues, and officials continue to urge homeowners in vulnerable areas to stay alert as shoreline erosion worsens with strong surf and storms.
