Investigators with RPD say they are investigating the death as a suicide and that no foul play was involved.
According to police, it happened Saturday afternoon on South McDowell Street near Nash Square. After officers arrived on scene, they removed the person from the tree and initiated life-saving measures, but were unsuccessful. The person was pronounced dead, RPD says.
The state medical examiner's office is now in charge of the case and will conduct a full investigation, according to Raleigh police.

The case is drawing a lot of attention on social media since it happened.
RPD released this statement related to the man's death:
"We understand that this loss may be deeply painful for those who knew and cared about the individual. We ask everyone to please be mindful of the family and friends who are grieving and to avoid sharing unverified information or speculation while investigators continue their work."
