MOUNT AIRY, N.C. (WTVD) -- ABC11 is highlighting products that are North Carolina-made, with the spotlight on LazerEdge, a woodworking brand that began in an NC State dorm room.

Founder Will Pfitzner started the company in 2014 while studying biomedical engineering at NC State University in Raleigh. What began as a personal passion for woodworking soon became a business goal: to get his products sold in the NC State bookstore.

Today, LazerEdge has grown into a nationwide brand, taking over an industrial textile plant in Pfitzner's hometown of Mount Airy.

"I came back home to Mount Airy because of my upbringing," Pfitzner said. "When I was in school, Mount Airy had this industrial textile field, and then slowly but surely, businesses started getting outsourced overseas. We've grown to employ 15 team members from our community."

The company now holds licenses from more than 120 universities nationwide to produce wooden home décor and university merchandise, blending craftsmanship with state-of-the-art technology. LazerEdge also makes products for all branches of the U.S. military.

"This is more than selling a product - it's about a mission of doing what we love and contributing to our overall community," Pfitzner said. "We're contributing not only to Mount Airy and Surry County, but to the entire North Carolina community. This is the best state for doing business in the United States, and we can manufacture here and compete on a national scale."

LazerEdge products can be ordered online through the company's website, Etsy, and Amazon.
