Sampson County man accused of setting girlfriend on fire denied bond

CLINTON, N.C. (WTVD) -- A Sampson County man accused of setting his girlfriend on fire was denied bond on Thursday

Franklin Faircloth, 29, was in court on Thursday.

Deputies said he broke into his girlfriend's home in Roseboro on Saturday night, doused her with gasoline, and set her on fire.

Faircloth was arrested Monday after a two-day search.



He faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree arson, first-degree burglary, assault inflicting serious bodily injury, and misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.

He's expected back in court next month.

ABC11 has learned that the victim has burns on her arms, legs, chest and back. She's recovering at a trauma center, but the victim's mother told the district attorney that the prognosis was not good.

The DA said that if the woman does not survive her injuries, Faircloth will face a first-degree murder charge.
