The advisory was issued after routine water-quality testing and follow-up sampling detected E. coli bacteria in a repeat sample collected Sept. 11.
On Saturday, Sept. 12, the Town checked chlorine residuals throughout the water system and reported that results were within acceptable operating levels and consistent with safe drinking-water guidelines.
On Sunday, Sept. 13, two separate water samples were collected from an affected home. The Cameron Laboratories and the Harnett Regional Water Laboratory reported that both samples were negative for total coliform bacteria and E. coli.
Additionally, out of an abundance of caution, the Town collected 10 additional bacteriological samples throughout the water system on Sunday, including samples from areas not located near the affected site.
Monday, the Cameron Laboratories reported that all 10 additional samples were negative for total coliform bacteria and E. coli.
After receiving the results on those samples, Spring Lake officials lifted the boil water advisory.
