Process to complete NC 540 starts Tuesday

APEX, NC (WTVD) -- A major step forward in the process to complete NC 540 will start Tuesday as crews begin the initial prep work for the $18 million interchange project.

They'll add a new interchange on the Triangle Expressway toll road at Old Holly Springs Apex Road, just east of US 1.

It's expected to be at the heart of continued growth in southern Wake County.

While traffic some days still looks light on the toll road - by 2035, 35,000 are expected to use it. Especially residents of a planned mixed use development in Apex.

If all goes well, the interchange is expected to open in late November of this year.
