RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Raleigh police are rolling out a new plan to keep the city safe during the busy summer months.

The Raleigh Police Department's 2026 Summer Action Plan runs from June 1 through Aug. 31 and focuses on crime prevention, enforcement and community engagement.

Leaders say the goal is to strengthen public safety, build trust with the community and improve quality of life across the city.

"Public safety is always our top priority, and these initiatives will help ensure that both community members and visitors can fully enjoy everything the city has to offer," Raleigh Police Chief Rico L. Boyce said.

The plan includes targeted efforts to address violent crime, repeat offenders, impaired driving and juvenile crime, along with continued patrols for issues like reckless driving and other quality-of-life concerns.

Police are also launching a new online tool called CrimeMapper, which will allow residents to track police activity in their neighborhoods.

Community programs are a big part of the effort, including youth activities, safety education and outreach initiatives aimed at building stronger relationships between officers and residents.

Officials say the strategy combines enforcement with outreach to help keep Raleigh safe as more people head out during the summer.
