RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- A man arrested in connection with a chase that led to an hours-long standoff in Raleigh is facing more charges related to a separate case.

Raleigh Police said Wednesday afternoon that officers attempted to detain Elmer Bautista Candela in connection with an earlier assault on an officer in the 400 block of Solar Drive.

As officers approached Candela, he ran away and stole a pickup truck, leading officers on a chase. During the chase, police said the suspect hit another vehicle at Yonkers Road and Raleigh Boulevard.

Police said the 21-year-old was taken into custody at a home in the 100 block of Bashford Road. Other people were in the home, but none of those occupants were injured or arrested, police said. Those people were being questioned, and their relationship to Candela was not yet known.

Police said he is also facing charges for an incident that happened on Aug. 16, where a person "rammed a police vehicle with a pickup truck, and fled the scene" on Thistlebrook Court.

Candela was wanted for outstanding warrants for assault by strangulation, injury to personal property, and attempted larceny.
