RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Four Raleigh middle schoolers are headed to the world stage after winning the top honor at this month's VEX IQ Robotics State Championship in Concord.
Team 27519A - known as the Monarchs - claimed the Excellence Award at the competition, the highest distinction given at the event. The team is made up of Carnage Magnet Middle School students Shranav Vinodh, Vivaan Shah, Viaan Mangla and Aarush Vyas.
What sets the Monarchs apart is how they got started. Rather than forming through a school program, the students launched the team on their own as a student-led STEM initiative.
Their first-place finish earns them a berth in the VEX Robotics World Championship, scheduled for next month in St. Louis.
