1 seriously injured in Wade Ave crash that shut down I-40 East in Raleigh

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- A crash involving several vehicles on Interstate 40 shut down all eastbound lanes on Tuesday afternoon and left one person with very serious injuries.

The crash happened near Wade Avenue.

Chopper 11 flew over the scene and saw the four vehicles involved in the crash.

Firetrucks and police cars blocked all five lanes of the interstate at around 4 p.m. The backup stretched for miles.

One person was hospitalized in serious condition, Raleigh Police said. RPD added that the road was shut down for an extended period because of the extent of the injuries involved.



At 5 p.m., first responders began diverting traffic off the interstate at Harrison Avenue.

At 5:10 p.m., first responders reopened three lanes of traffic at the crash site. All lanes were reopened by 6:15 p.m.

Police said the crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.
