RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- National Police Week starts Monday and the Raleigh Police Department and Wake County Sheriff's Department plan to start the week remembering those killed in the line of duty.

The ceremony is scheduled for 10:30 A.M. at Hayes Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh. Twenty-five Wake County fallen law enforcement officers will be honored.

National Police Week is as a collaborative effort of many organizations dedicated to honoring America's law enforcement community. Several City of Raleigh facilities and downtown buildings will be lit in blue during National Police Week to honor all fallen officers.

President Kennedy issued the first proclamation in 1962, for Peace Officers Memorial Day and National Police Week to remember and honor law enforcement officers for their service and sacrifices. Peace Officers Memorial Day, which annually falls on May 15, honors law enforcement officers killed or disabled in the line of duty.
