CARY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Crowds gathered in Cary on Sunday for the Rock Your World event, a free family-friendly concert held annually during the week of September 11.

This year's event featured performances by the Rae Raddick Band, Band of Brothers, and the American Bombshells on Fenton Gateway Drive.

Attendees had the opportunity to donate to four nonprofits, including U.S. Veterans Corps, a Raleigh-based charity that supports the military community through initiatives like toy drives and housing assistance for veterans.

For U.S. Veterans Corps, remembering 9/11 is deeply personal. Andrew Ladner, a representative of the organization, said that many of their younger members enlisted in response to the attacks.

"For us, it's a big deal because we're a military organization, and a lot of the guys in our group, the younger ones, went in because of September 11," Ladner said.

He also highlighted the often-overlooked aftermath of 9/11, including the deployments, recruitment efforts, and sacrifices made by those who served.

In addition to their ongoing work with veteran housing, U.S. Veterans Corps has also supported Western North Carolina in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene last year, sending volunteer crews to assist with relief efforts.

The event lasts from 1 to 6 p.m.
