RPD releases crash data on infamous Peace Street bridge

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Raleigh Police shed new light on the infamous Peace Street bridge on Friday after two separate tractor-trailers got stuck underneath the bridge a day earlier.

According to RPD, there have been 13 crashes involving the bridge known as the "Peace Street Peeler" between January 2021 and July of this year.

That total does not include Thursday's incidents, in which both tractor-trailers had their roofs torn off.

There have been five "stuck trucks" there in recent weeks.

Police said that at least 10 of those 13 crashes were because people didn't read the traffic signs warning about the bridge.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) said it is truck drivers' responsibility to know the height of their vehicles before attempting to go under bridges.
