RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Four people were injured Tuesday when two cars struck the side of a school bus that was attempting to turn at a Wake County intersection, authorities said.

The bus was stopped on Ligon Mill Road and attempted to turn left onto Louisburg Road while the light was red, according to North Carolina State Highway Patrol. As the bus entered the intersection, two vehicles traveling northeast on Louisburg Road collided with the bus.

The bus driver was charged with running a red light, officials said.

Three people from the two cars were taken to a hospital with minor injuries. An adult bus helper was also transported for treatment.

Only one child was on the bus at the time, and officials said the child was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
