In messaging to parents, Wake County Public Schools says all school campuses will be closed. However, students will have remote instruction Tuesday.
Whereas, Durham Public Schools announced Monday that students would not have class of any kind on Tuesday.
The decision comes amid an imbalanced week during the week of January 26 when some schools saw a teacher workday without school, remote instruction, and delayed starts to the school day.
""We always want to have (school) filled with kids. But we recognize that sometimes that we're not able to do it," said Davis Drive Middle School Principal Michael Hokenberg. He is in his sixth year as principal of the middle school in Cary.
"It's always hard when there's so many moving parts to everything," Hokenberg said of the decision being made between asynchronous learning or taking the entire day off. "So we recognize that it's not just an easy decision, specifically with school closures or with anything, but there's just a lot of facets."
In an email to ABC11, a spokesperson for Durham Public Schools says leadership weighs the decision to use a remote learning day while taking into consideration the number of banked days that remain on the calendar against remaining remote days.
Currently, the district has one remote learning day available and decided against using it on Monday and Tuesday.
