"It's just fun for me," Bohnsack said.
Bohnsack attends every home game with her husband, armed with a white poster board and a new design each time. While the look of each sign changes, the message stays consistent: support for the Hurricanes.
"They get me on camera during the warmups. And I always look for a little kid to come stand next to me, because then they get on the jumbotron, too, and it's just exciting to see a new sign," she said.
At her home, Bohnsack shared a glimpse into the creative process behind her signs. Each design begins with the upcoming opponent in mind.
"I have to see who we're playing. And then I come up with the ideas. Now, sometimes it's just for our team, and sometimes it's against the other team," she said.
With help from her husband and a Cricut machine, Bohnsack turns those ideas into finished posters. As the season ramps up, she said her latest signs carry added importance.
"Since we're playing Las Vegas, I decided to go with a slot machine. And instead of lemons, apples, and everything, it's just Cane's symbols that you'll see. And it'll say Canes win. Then I have a different one ready in my mind for Thursday," she said.
Bohnsack's tradition of making signs began five years ago, but her dedication to the team dates much further. Inside her home, a room dedicated to the Hurricanes features memorabilia collected over decades.
"This is from 2006 when Mike and I got to touch the cup," she said, pointing to one item in her collection.
The space includes autographed sticks, pucks, photos, bobbleheads, and even a Stanley Cup-shaped lamp.
"I've got gloves over here. There's (Jordan) Martinook and (Jordan) Staal, and then our team-signed helmet," she said.
Her collection extends beyond memorabilia to clothing, with jerseys and sweatshirts spanning years of fandom.

"They're all from different years and different sizes, and I never used to get jerseys with names and numbers because we always lost the players. But now I love it," she said.
Now retired, Bohnsack, a former teacher and three-time cancer survivor, continues to pour her energy into supporting the Hurricanes. As the team begins a new chapter, she is ready for what comes next.
"We're going to win. This is our year for the Cup," she said.
For Bohnsack, the story continues with each game and each sign, as she cheers on the Hurricanes, hoping this season ends with a championship.
