Grandmother says grandson recants story about BB gun

DURHAM (WTVD) -- A Durham teenager learned a tough lesson about the consequences of lying all thanks to his very angry grandmother.

It all started when 13-year-old Kalil Allen told his grandmother he was held at gunpoint with a BB-gun at school.

Johnette Alston went on camera with ABC11 a day after his school was placed on lockdown and repeated her grandson's fictitious story.

It turns out Kalil made up the entire thing, and his grandmother wants everyone to know that her grandson was lying

"I'm very sorry for getting in all of this trouble...cause I could have gotten into trouble for pressing charges for me for telling a lie on a boy," said Kalil.

"When you're wrong, say you're wrong," said Alston. "Don't hide behind it."

Kalil will now be participating in a community service project with the Durham Court System and his grandmother will make sure he won't be lying ever again.
