RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- The holiday shopping frenzy is in full swing as many people wait until the last Saturday before Christmas to finish their gift lists.

This day, now famously known as "Super Saturday," is the second busiest shopping day of the season.

According to the National Retail Federation, 158.9 million shoppers are expected to hit the stores this weekend, surpassing last year's 157.2 million and setting a new record.

Kathryn Yoakum, a Super Saturday shopper in the Triangle, shared her experience with Eyewitness News.

"The lines were not too bad," she said. "Everybody seems to be nice walking around, and everyone seemed to be pretty well behave."

Big-box retailers are pulling out all the stops to attract last-minute shoppers during what they call "peak week." Target, for example, is hosting in-store toy demos over the weekend and staying open until midnight to help as many shoppers as possible.

"You would be surprised how many people come in and they're like, 'I need to find X for a three-year-old,'" Meghan Doyle, a Target store director, said. "If you have a question, or if you don't know what to buy, I promise you we will help you figure that out and make your holiday fantastic."

With shoppers buzzing through the final critical days, it's clear that everyone is working hard to ensure Santa's list is complete.
