Suspects charged in deadly boat crash on Harris Lake served in military, U.S. Army confirms

MONCURE, N.C. (WTVD) -- ABC11's I-team has learned new details about the two people who were charged in the boating incident that killed a 10-year-old girl and injured a woman on Harris Lake.

The US Army confirmed that both Quinten Kight and Annemarie Flanigan were enlisted.

Kight served from 2007 to 2022 and retired in the rank of Sgt. 1st Class, and Flanigan served from 1996 to 2021 and retired in the rank of Maj.

Court documents show that Kight admitted to driving the boat when it hit people in the lake, killing 10-year-old Brooklyn Carroll and severely injuring a woman.

Flanigan, who is Kight's girlfriend, owned the boat, which is being held by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, and is also facing charges in the case.



On Friday, Family and friends said their final goodbyes to Brooklyn, who was a student at West Lake Elementary School in Cary.

She is being remembered as caring, compassionate, and deeply sensitive.
