RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Educators from Wake, Johnston and Lee counties were recognized for their commitment to student success during the second annual Teachers and Principals of the Year Awards Ceremony, hosted by the Xi Mu Mu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.

The event celebrated educators who have made a significant impact in their schools and communities, while highlighting the importance of investing in the next generation.

The ceremony was organized by the chapter's charitable arm, the Noble Aspiration Foundation of Cary, in partnership with the Alliance of Black School Educators. Together, the organizations honored outstanding teachers and principals from school districts across the region.

Three principals received the Toussaint Avent Sr. Recognition Award, which honors excellence in school leadership and service. Three teachers were presented with the William Curry Recognition Award for their dedication to education and student achievement.

In addition to recognizing educators, the organizations awarded a $4,000 scholarship to a student to support their pursuit of higher education.

Organizers said the awards program is designed to celebrate educators who shape the lives of young people and to encourage continued excellence in classrooms across central North Carolina.

The event brought together community leaders, educators, students and families for an evening focused on service, scholarship and educational achievement.

ABC11's Bianca Holman served as the event emcee.
