CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WTVD) -- The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's women's lacrosse team is pushing for another final four appearance on Thursday night.

The ladies will face Stanford in the NCAA quarterfinals.

Last year, the Tar Heels won their fourth national title, and they are hoping for another.

UNC (17-1) has won eight consecutive games since suffering its only loss of the regular season, a 17-16 overtime loss at home to Northwestern.

The Tar Heels have already beaten the Cardinal (17-4) twice, but they know it's always tough to beat a team three times.

Star sophomore Chloe Humphrey said the Heels thrive with the pressure of being national champions.

"I view it as motivation. I believe winning a national championship is hard, but winning two back-to-back is even harder, and my teammates are people who are motivated and up for that challenge rather than scared of it," Humphrey said.

Head coach Jenny Levy knows there are no guarantees.

"I think anytime you're in a final eight that the quarterfinal game is really a difficult game," Levy said. "Doesn't matter your ranking at that point, doesn't help you put more points on the board, so, for me as a coach, as a leader of them is really getting focus on how we want to play."

Gametime is set for 7:30 p.m. in Chapel Hill.
