Union Pines High School evacuated after reported bomb threat

CAMERON, N.C. (WTVD) -- Union Pines High School was evacuated Wednesday after a student reported seeing a bomb threat written on a bathroom wall.

Moore County deputies said all students and staff were moved to designated safe areas, which include the football field, while authorities began a full search of the campus.

In a message to school families, Union Pines said. "A Union Pines High School student reported seeing a bomb threat written on the bathroom wall, prompting the immediate evacuation of all students and staff in accordance with established procedures. Authorities are currently conducting a full search of the campus, and all students and staff will remain in their designated safe areas until further notice."

People are advised to avoid the campus until further notice.



On Wednesday afternoon, Moore County Schools said students will not reenter the building. Personal items will remain secured in classrooms until Thursday morning.

School will dismiss on a normal schedule beginning at 3:45 p.m., a spokesperson said. Car riders can be picked up near the football stadium on Viking Drive. "Please follow the traffic pattern and directions from school staff and local law enforcement. We appreciate your patience, as dismissal will be different and take longer than usual," the spokesperson added.

Students who ride the bus will be transported as soon as buses have been cleared by authorities.

No additional details, including the nature of the threat or whether any devices have been found, have been released.
