Dr. Destiney Ross-Putney will take over the roll effective Aug. 1.
She was previously announced as interim superintendent.
"The Board is proud to appoint Dr. Ross-Putney as the next Superintendent of Vance County Schools," said Board Chair Ayana Lewis. "Her deep understanding of our district, proven record of innovation, and commitment to student success make her exceptionally well-prepared to lead Vance County Schools into the future."
The move comes as Dr. Cindy Bennett is retiring as superintendent at the end of July.
Ross-Putney is a graduate of Vance County Schools and serves as the district's chief officer of instruction and innovation.
She earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education and a Master of Education in Instructional Technology and Computer Education at North Carolina State University. She completed her Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership at High Point University.
She also holds North Carolina educator licenses in Instructional Technology Specialist (Computers), Mathematics (Grades 6-9), and School Administration.
Ross-Putney started with Vance County Schools in 2008 as a math teacher at Northern Vance High School.
"I've spent my career helping build opportunities for students in Vance County Schools," she said. "Now I'm honored to lead the district into its next chapter, with a deep respect for what we've accomplished together and an unwavering commitment to doing what is best for children."
