According to the Durham County Sheriff's Office, Victoria Lowry, 33, was arrested on Tuesday at her home in Red Springs following "an investigation into fraudulent activity targeting a Durham woman."
Deputies said in mid-July, the patient's daughter contacted the sheriff's office to report several missing checks from her mother's checkbook.
The daughter told deputies she found that three checks had been cashed, and the payee was a former in-home caregiver, identified as Lowry, who worked for Lilies of Hope Health Agency based in Lumberton.
Investigators said in addition to the checks, they found that several bottles of prescription medication were also missing from the patient's home.
Lowry has been charged with exploitation of elder/disabled adult, three counts of uttering forged endorsement, and obtaining property by false pretense.
She is scheduled to appear in Durham County court on Thursday.
