RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- A shooting Tuesday morning involving Wake County deputies left a man seriously injured.

Three deputies responded to a call around 1:30 a.m. about a man threatening to harm himself in the 200 block of Benar Drive near Raleigh.

When deputies arrived, the man fired a gun at the deputies. Deputies discharged their firearms in response, striking the man, identified as 32-year-old Brian Monroe.

Monroe was then taken to a hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, authorities said. A deputy was also injured but was treated at a hospital and later released.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) told ABC11 that a 17-year-old living at home made the 911 call. Authorities later found the teen in the backyard, inside a tent.

The three deputies have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation. This is standard procedure following an officer-involved shooting.

The SBI will also conduct an investigation, which is standard.
