RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- It's a new chapter for Wake County libraries thanks to the county's voter-approved library bond program.

Some of the expansion projects funded by the bond are moving forward.

"Libraries are the heart of our communities, and we're pleased that funds can go toward projects that are so important to the people they serve," said Wake County Commissioner Tara Waters. "These investments will help us meet growing demand and provide spaces that truly enrich lives."

Originally slated for renovation only, the Green Road Community Library will be expanded from 8,000 to 12,000 square feet. The library is expected to open in 2030.

New library branches will increase in size from 12,000 to 14,000 square feet.

New libraries are planned for Rolesville, the Apex Friendship area, Wendell, and Athens Drive.
