Man shot in Wake County now facing charges; deputies say incident domestic-related

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- A man injured in a Wake County shooting is now facing charges after investigators say he was armed during the incident.

The Wake County Sheriff's Office said James Russell, 31, has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and assault by pointing a gun.

Deputies said the charges came after investigators determined the man who was shot had a firearm at the time of the incident.

The shooting happened around 10 p.m. Friday in the 2470 block of Bud Lipscomb Road.

When deputies arrived, they found Russell suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.



Authorities have not released additional details about what led up to the shooting, but say it is believed to be domestic-related.

Officials said there is no known threat to the public.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no other information has been released at this time.
