The investigation started Oct. 10 when the woman called deputies to report fraud. The woman reported that $80,000 had been stolen from her. She said it happened after someone contacted her, claiming there was an issue with her online payment system.

A month after the investigation started, on Nov. 10, the sheriff's office, with assistance from the Cary Police Department, took Yanru Cui, 28, into custody.
