A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for our northern counties until noon. The storm system is moving faster and more progressive than initially forecast, reducing the chance for wintry weather in those areas.

A mix of sleet and snow is still possible north of I-85 for a few hours in the morning, with minor accumulations possible on elevated and grassy surfaces near the Virginia border. For the Triangle, expect mainly cold rain, and some sleet mixing in at times.

Kim Deaner from NCDOT says they spent extra time pretreating Person County.
"Anything that's elevated, and all bridges getting brined today," she said Thursday. "As it stands, Person County seems to be the hotspot. So those crews, they knew they were going to be the hotspot, so they were out yesterday brining. They took care of their primary roads."

No travel impacts are anticipated south of I-85. Showers will continue south and east along the I-95 corridor into the afternoon hours.
