Hope Chest to distribute more than 1,000 free prom dresses in Youngsville

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- A free prom dress giveaway later this month aims to help students offset the rising cost of prom attire.

Wednesday marked National Promposal Day, when high schoolers across the country "pop the question" and ask someone to prom. You may remember a notable promposal involving Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper, who surprised a New Jersey student by showing up in person to help him ask his date.

As prom season approaches, several nonprofits are stepping in to support students in need. The Hope Chest in Youngsville will hold a free prom dress giveaway on March 22 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Pinehill Pavilion.

This year, the nonprofit has more than 1,000 dresses available. No registration is required, and dresses will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
